Department of Advanced Studies

Director: prof.dr.arch. Hanna DERER

The School of Advanced Studies is open to graduates in Architecture, Urbanism, liberal arts, and other connected fields, according to the curriculum of each programme.

The programmes address to various professional, administrative, cultural and social aims and needs.

Generally, the advanced studies are prerequisites for future research or professorial careers, or for architectural critique, thus there are programmes focussed on the theoretical approach and on the education of writing abilities.

At the same time, more practice-related topics, as those concerning urban management, restoration and preservation, management of the historical patrimony, are especially required in the local context. That is why several programmes have a more pragmatic orientation towards the main topical problems in the Romanian society. For instance, Bucharest is often used as a "laboratory" for design and research in courses and projects that deal with these topical problems.

The intention of offering community-oriented programmes and research projects and studios, which benefit students, faculty and community alike, is also taken into consideration.

The intentions of the School are articulated through three types of programmes:

  • Advanced Architectural Design Programmes (AADP)
  • Master of Architecture Degree programmes (MAP)
