Architecture
Integrated Bachelor's and Master's Degree Programme, 6 years, 360 ECTS Credits
This six-year-long study programme in Architecture is the direct descendant of the first Romanian higher School of Architecture, founded in 1892.
The present structure of the formative process for future architects is a synthesis of the tradition of the historical School of Architecture in Bucharest on one hand and the up-to-date appropriation of modernity on the other hand, in harmony with the field of contemporary architectural education in the world. In the recent reforms of the UAUIM architectural education, constant cooperation with European and non-European schools of architecture, as well as with professional organizations both national (OAR, UAR) and international (UIA-UNESCO, EAAE, ACE and others) played an important role.
Radical changes that have occurred in Romanian society in the post-communist era since 1990, as well as the significant mutations that have marked the evolution of contemporary society in the last decades all over the world, have made obvious the necessity that the educational process should fulfill new requirements, orienting towards:
- an architectural education that responds to rapidly shifting values in contemporary culture, everyday life and current attitudes;
- an architectural education that is sensitive to the extremely rapid progress of information technology;
- an architectural education that is attentive to the growing instability of the labour market and the more and more specialized professional practice;
- an architectural education that is prepared to face the explosion of new building materials and technologies;
- an architectural education that is aware of the fast deterioration of natural environment and the necessity of creating a more energy-efficient and more sustainable built environment;
- an architectural education that is sensitive to traditional values and local identity;
- an architectural education that promotes creativity as expressing the contemporary contribution to the enrichment of the existing urban context.
According to national legislation concerning architecture as a regulated profession, this programme is an integrated Bachelor’s and Master’s cycle (which means that no intermediate Bachelor’s degree is awarded to those who do not complete the requirements for the final Master’s degree). The Master’s degree is awarded at the end of the 6 years period of full-time study (including diploma work) and requires 360 ECTS credits.
